Ally McCoist raves about ‘exquisite’ Weston McKennie and Jack Harrison work in Leeds United 1-1 draw vs Leicester City

Ally McCoist was left in awe of a “beautiful” passage of play from Leeds United in the build-up to Luis Sinisterra’s goal against Leicester.

The Colombian’s first-half header was cancelled out by a Jamie Vardy strike to see the spoils shared at Elland Road on Tuesday evening (25 April).

Speaking on BT Sport’s commentary of the fixture, McCoist was full of praise for Jack Harrison and Weston McKennie in the lead-up to the 20th-minute opening goal.

“The delivery to the back post is exquisite, watch the initial pass from McKennie he fires it into Harrison’s feet,” said McCoist (BT Sport, 20:20, 25 April).

“It’s a lovely delivery into the back post and a perfect header. What a goal. It’s a beautiful goal.”

Top form

Harrison is a player who is operating at the top of his game at present and his electric form could well propel Leeds to Premier League survival. He is eager to take on his man at every opportunity and provide quality deliveries into the box.

The cross for Sinisterra was pinpoint and left the Foxes’ defence with no hope of defending it. Considering Leeds led for a large part of the game, Javi Gracia will be disappointed not to have seen his side pick up all three points. They squandered some huge chances towards the end, with Patrick Bamford culpable for a guilt-edge miss.

There’s a chance Bamford could have been offside, but he’s still got to be scoring. It was a routine opportunity and these are the moments which could come back to bite Gracia’s side. The Spaniard will be partly happy with the performance, but he will be acutely aware of how important fixtures at Elland Road are.

In other Leeds United, a Whites player was reduced to tears after what happened this week while he’s also on the cusp of sealing a permanent Elland Road exit.
