Ally McCoist makes Leeds United transfer plea live on air as Georginio Rutter exit mooted
Ally McCoist has urged Leeds United to keep Archie Gray at Elland Road this season, suggesting that Georginio Rutter could be Premier League bound.
The Whites missed out on Premier League promotion, losing to Southampton in the Championship play-off final, leaving the club potentially needing to raise upwards of £100million to help with the pressure of unpaid transfer fees. [Daily Mail]
Gray, Rutter, Crysencio Summerville and Wilfried Gnonto have all been linked with moves away from Elland Road this summer, though McCoist wants to see the former remain in Yorkshire.
Speaking live via talkSPORT on Wednesday (29 May, 8:57am), he said: “I’m not sure it’ll be one of the top six but I can see him [Rutter] getting a move to the Premier League. Whether Leeds have to sell is a different issue, but they have to keep that squad to go up next year.
“Looking at the signings, Glen Kamara did reasonably well. Archie Gray was playing in the middle of the park and has been moved to right-back – I’d love to see him stay at Leeds for another year or 18 months.”
Will Georginio Rutter and Archie Gray be at Leeds United next season?
Gray has experienced an incredible breakthrough season under Daniel Farke and will likely be keen to continue his development at Elland Road as a boyhood Leeds fan.
The 18-year-old has been utilised at right-back for the majority of the 2023/24 campaign despite naturally being a midfielder, covering for several early injuries and impressing in the position.
If Gray is to be at the club next season, Farke has been urged to build the squad around him and lead the Whites back to the Premier League at the second time of asking.

However, considering the financial issues at Elland Road, Leeds may have to come to terms with losing a couple of key players as they look to raise money.
They must ensure that Gray is not one of the sacrifices this summer, though, with multiple clubs across Europe keeping their eye on the situation, including the likes of Bayern Munich.
