Ally McCoist in hysterics live on talkSPORT after what’s said about Leeds United ace

Ally McCoist was sent into hysterics live on talkSPORT after a comment about Leeds United man Illan Meslier.

Meslier’s incredible 97th-minute error proved costly for Daniel Farke’s side in denying the club a win at Sunderland on Friday (4 October) night as Alan Browne’s ball deflected off Junior Firpo and somehow beyond the goalkeeper.

McCoist, speaking live on talkSPORT Breakfast with Jeff Stelling [7 October, 06:58], found a message hilarious that was sent in by a listener at the Frenchman’s expense, though did eventually agree fans should back him.

The message, met by plenty of amusement from the Scotsman, simply read: “You have to get behind Meslier, because he’s not stopping much.”

Leeds United to back Illan Meslier?

Will Leeds United persist with Meslier? Probably. Should they? It’s uncertain.

It is much to the 24-year-old’s credit that he has been number one at a club like Leeds for so long – there are many who fall by the wayside under the pressure and expectation of playing at Elland Road.

But the mistake on Friday (4 October) could be viewed as one too many, especially the nature of it – it almost looked to defy physics, it was in the dying seconds while 2-1 up away to the Championship leaders, in a season promotion is an absolute must.

The international break will be a long and excruciating one now for a Leeds side desperate to put things right, and it will be interesting to see whether Farke backs Meslier with a rousing show of faith, or whether he is tempted to draft in seasoned EFL stopper Karl Darlow.

If Meslier is not dropped now, he will not be while Farke is at the club. The best thing for those for whom it is out of their hands – namely his teammates – is to publicly back him, and reel off any gripes in private.

Sheffield United at Elland Road are up next, with that another potential promotion showdown in months to come.
