Alioski shares the one thing that is the ‘secret’ to Leeds success under Bielsa

Leeds United winger Gjanni Alioski believes that ‘hard work’ is the secret to the club’s success under mercurial manager Marcelo Bielsa.

The Argentine has now been at Elland Road for 600 days, and Alioski believes that he is getting better every day because of him.

The Whites have certainly seen an upturn under Bielsa, and have arguably been the dominant team in the second tier for the majority of his time in charge.

Promotion has eluded the former Marseille boss thus far – although that will hopefully change in a few months’ time – but Alioski feels his impact has been massive nonetheless.

“I improve something every day,” he told the Yorkshire Evening Post. “This is a coach that one day you are going to miss and you need to enjoy it and to try and take in every bit of information because this really helps you in the game, in the training and when you are home and you are really thinking about things and it is in your head.

“It’s easy to say [what the main source of the club’s improvement has been]. Of course there have been changes around Leeds, the boss [Andrea Radrizzani] and everything but since I arrived I think it’s the coach Marcelo Bielsa.

“And I think the secret is mainly hard work. The players listen to him, they do the work, they have the concentration and they have the adaptation to do the work and everything. But if you are answering the question of what has improved and how I think it is mainly Marcelo Bielsa.”

It’s interesting to hear Alioski whittle down the club’s progression over the past couple of years as being down to Bielsa more so than anyone else.

The Argentine has clearly had a massive impact. He’s raised the prestige of the club, the quality of the football and the team’s ability to attract top quality players in the transfer market.

It’s also funny to hear him say that ‘hard work’ is the secret to their success. You would’ve thought that hard work would have been the most basic of prerequisites under Bielsa.

It’s probably more what hard work can get you when it’s channelled into Bielsa’s system and his training methods and way of playing. That sort of hard work gets you different results than working hard under a different manager.
