Alfred Schreuder at Elland Road right now to watch Leeds United v Manchester United, he’s ‘serious’ contender for job

Former Ajax boss Alfred Schreuder is a serious contender for the vacant Leeds United managerial position, according to the Telegraph’s Mike McGrath.

The board have endured a tough task trying to find Jesse Marsch’s successor with Andoni Iraola, Carlos Corberan and Arne Slot all turning down the chance to move to Elland Road.

However, it appears progress has been made, with McGrath suggesting the Dutchman is currently in attendance for the home fixture against Manchester United.

“Ex-Ajax coach Alfred Schreuder is a serious contender among candidates for the Leeds United manager’s job. Dutchman is at Leeds v Manchester United today,” wrote McGrath (via Twitter, 12 February).

Breakthrough

This is a serious breakthrough in Leeds’ quest to land a new manager. After the recent knockbacks, it appears the club have finally identified a candidate who somewhat fits the calibre of manager they’re trying to appoint.

The Dutchman didn’t enjoy a good spell with Ajax but he’s certainly an experienced coach and could well be a good fit at Elland Road. Fans may be slightly disappointed with the news of Schreuder’s attendance, but ultimately, an appointment needs to be made soon.

Leeds have a huge game against Everton next weekend and desperately need to have a new man in place as early as possible. Michael Skubala has done well in interim charge and it shows that this squad is more than capable of putting in performances which will keep them in the Premier League.

The board have invested and shown ambition and whoever does take the reins will fancy their chances of getting a tune out of this group of players.
