Alfonso Pedraza not on top of Victor Orta list in Leeds United transfer news
Alfonso Pedraza is not on top of Victor Orta’s Leeds United transfer shortlist, as the club continues to search for a Premier League quality left-back in January, according to Graham Smyth.
The 26-year-old has established himself as a mainstay in the Villarreal starting lineup this season and has reportedly attracted interest from the Whites and Italian giants Inter Milan. [Football Espana]
Pedraza spent the second half of the 2016/17 campaign at Elland Road, but there was no option to sign the Spaniard on a permanent transfer.
According to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Smyth, the left-back is not Orta’s first-choice candidate in the January transfer window.
He said: “There’s lots of noise around Alfonso Pedraza but the YEP understands he’s not topping any lists in Orta’s office.”
It comes as no shock that Leeds United are searching for a top-tier left-back in the January transfer window, but the dismissal of Pedraza could prove to be a foolish move.
Pedraza picked up an abundance of experience during Villarreal’s run to the semi-finals of the Champions League last year, and this big-game nouse could be a huge asset to Jesse Marsch’s side. However, as long as Orta manages to snap up a left-back in the upcoming window, the shutdown of the Spaniard will be quickly forgotten.
With Pascal Struijk still playing as an emergency left-back in the absence of any viable alternatives, Leeds need to get their act together and attack the January window with a purpose they lacked in the summer.
The club failed to pick up the necessary acquisitions to the squad they desperately needed prior to the season, and these weaknesses have been made glaringly obvious ever since.
