Alex Mowatt and Aaron Ramsdale react to Kalvin Phillips captaining Leeds v Crewe

Leeds United ace Kalvin Phillips captained his side against Crewe in the second round of the League Cup at Elland Road last night.

The hosts ran out 3-0 winners thanks to a goal from the England international midfielder and a Jack Harrison brace.

Phillips was glad to have skippered Leeds to victory in front of the fans, and he took to his personal Instagram account to show his delight afterwards.

West Brom midfielder Alex Mowatt and Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale were happy for their mate, commenting thus on the post.

Class

Phillips is captain material and he has always shown that leadership quality for both club and country.

He hardly finds the back of the net due to his position on the pitch, but he tends to do on special occasions, and last night was definitely one.

Liam Cooper is the current Leeds captain, with Luke Ayling acting as vice-captain, but head coach Marcelo Bielsa gave Phillips the honour of leading out the team last night, and it was deserved.

If Whites fans had their way, the Three Lions star, and not Cooper, would be the side’s skipper, and that could happen sooner or later.

Leeds would have to keep hold of their midfield powerhouse for that to happen, but that could prove difficult given his performances for club and country over the last two years.

The Premier League bigwigs and their counterparts are most likely keeping tabs on Phillips, and an Elland Road exit could be on the cards in a couple of seasons from now.
