Alex Crook shares Leeds United transfer update as new David Brooks ‘guarantee’ emerges

Alex Crook has confirmed that Leeds United are interested in Bournemouth winger David Brooks, but the Welshman won’t be allowed to leave until the end of the transfer window.

The 26-year-old has returned to the fold on the south coast after a battle with cancer and has made 12 Premier League appearances for the Cherries so far this season, scoring once and picking up one further assist.

However, Brooks is subject of plenty of interest from the Championship, with a number of sides interested in signing him on loan, but talkSPORT’s chief football writer, Crook, has admitted no potential move is “guaranteed”.

As quoted by Give Me Sport (10 January) he said: “Brooks has a lot of Championship interest, Leeds as well [as Southampton]. But I think with Bournemouth losing Hamed Traore because he’s got malaria, he won’t return anytime soon.

“Dango Ouattara is going to AFCON, so if they let them go, it will be towards the end of the window. Nothing is guaranteed.”

Nothing is guaranteed

Leeds United don’t need a complete overhaul this January, but Daniel Farke’s side could do with a couple of new, exciting additions to help reignite his side’s push for the Championship’s automatic promotion places in the second half of the season.

Brooks could be that exact sort of addition, offering a blend of youth and experience that make him an incredible asset to have in England’s second tier. He has played in the Championship for a lot of his career and knows what it takes to get out of the division.

Daniel Farke

Not only could this transfer strengthen the Whites, but it would also hurt Southampton if they were to miss out on the Welshman. Given how close the two sides are in the Championship, that could have a big impact on the second half of the campaign.

Leeds will have to be patient with this one, judging by Crooks’ latest update, but that doesn’t mean that Farke’s side are completely out of the race.
