Alastair Campbell makes strange Leeds United fans observation after Burnley draw

Alastair Campbell found it “strange” how subdued both the Leeds United and Burnley supporters were during Monday’s stalemate.

The Whites played out a 0-0 draw in their top-of-the-table battle at Turf Moor in a game devoid of many real talking points.

Leeds had a weak penalty appeal rejected, but that and a late save aside from the only notable attempt was all fans had to get behind.

Speaking live on talkSPORT [28 January, 07:36am], former political figure Campbell said: “One of the things that was weird about it is how muted it was.

“Burnley against Leeds, the atmosphere is usually crazy, but the Leeds fans were subdued, our fans were subdued – it was all a bit strange.

“But to be frank, getting a point at home against Leeds, we’re fine with that.”

Championship standings after Leeds United draw at Burnley

There is a debate to be had with regards to who this point suits more. The answer is Sheffield United and Sunderland.

Ultimately, a point for Leeds is a decent return in what is arguably their toughest fixture of the campaign on paper.

Burnley have a quite remarkable defensive record this season and came out on top against the division’s best attack.

While some, including Ally McCoist, have raised concerns after the bore draw, Daniel Farke’s men are very well placed heading into the final few months of the season.

As things stand with 29 games, Leeds are top of the pile on 60 points, two better off than Sheffield United after the Blades lost 3-0 to Hull City last time out.

Burnley are three points worse off than Leeds, while Sunderland are five points adrift.

It is still very much all to play for and makes for a tense automatic promotion battle, just was the case last season.

That ended in playoff final heartbreak for the Whites, but let’s just hope lessons have been learned from that and Farke’s men can this time see the job through.
