Alan Smith blasts ‘stupid’ Rodrigo after incident in Leeds United defeat v West Ham United

Alan Smith has blasted Rodrigo for making a silly challenge on West Ham defender Emerson for Leeds United on Sunday.

The Whites visited the London Stadium on 21 May, hoping to get a win or at least a point, but came back empty-handed, losing 3-1.

In the 83rd minute, the Spaniard made a needless challenge on Emerson and got a yellow card for it.

Speaking on the Sky Sports Premier League, 3:11pm, 21 May, Bill Lesie said: “Rodrigo’s bundled into his man. There’s more than a hint of desperation there. He knows what’s coming.”

To which Smith responded: “Yeah. Stupid challenge, that.”

Stupid all around

This was certainly silly from Rodrigo, who earns £100k per-week at Elland Road (The Times, 26 Aug 2020), but it summed up the entire performance of the Leeds side and they look destined for relegation.

There was nothing from this performance that will give the fans hope of another miracle on the final day of the season.

It was the easiest of the four fixtures Sam Allardyce had to take care of and his side ended up suffering their heaviest defeat in that very game.

West Ham had nothing to play for and still, Leeds made them look like they were fighting for their lives while there was no such fight in the Whites.

Relegation will be devastating for the club, especially given everything that’s going on with the takeover and also key players possibly leaving.

Miracles do happen in football and Elland Road will be buzzing on the final day of the season, but they also need Everton do them a favour against Bournemouth at Goodison Park.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay claims that an international player at Elland Road has no place at the club next season and a summer transfer is on the cards.
