Alan Shearer shares Calvert-Lewin doubt after what he did in Leeds win vs Wolves

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has a lot of pressure on him to deliver at Leeds United this season.

Leeds United’s 3-1 victory against Wolves saw them pick up their first three points of the season on the road, and their second win of the campaign in total.

It means that the Whites have now accumulated seven points from their first five games, while sitting comfortably in 12th place.

Calvert-Lewin was on the score sheet for Leeds for the first time, but Alan Shearer has shared his doubts over the Englishman, in a sentiment that will be all too familiar for the 28-year-old.

Calvert-Lewin fitness record sparks concern again at Leeds

Calvert-Lewin impressed for Leeds against Wolves, and for reasons that go far beyond just his headed goal.

His all-round play was superb, and he provided a constant outlet for the Whites, which aided them in transition.

Kris Boyd identified Calvert-Lewin as Leeds’ potential saviour prior to the game, and Shearer almost echoed that, but once again cast doubt over his ability to stay fit in the Premier League.

Via The Rest is Football podcast, he said: “That’s the big thing, staying fit with him. They know that if they can get balls up to him, then he will score goals.

“But, it’s a big if, if he can stay fit.”

Given his record at Everton over the last few years, it is a warranted concern, and it is now up to him and Leeds to prove those doubters wrong.

Leeds need to be careful with Calvert-Lewin

The situation that Daniel Farke faces is a tough one.

He either plays Calvert-Lewin each week and risks injury, or rotates his forward line at the potential expense of losing goals.

Lukas Nmecha and Joel Piroe have only scored once between them this season, and while the same can be said for Calvert-Lewin, he has already showcased far more than either of their backup options.

Farke has decisions to make in that regard, and very few would envy him for that.
