Alan Shearer moots five-year first for Dominic Calvert-Lewin after what he’s seen at Leeds

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s form has earned the ultimate praise from Alan Shearer.

No matter what happens against Sunderland on Sunday, Leeds are guaranteed to finish outside the relegation zone at the end of 2025.

Daniel Farke deserves immense praise for his involvement in that, but a lot of the credit falls on Calvert-Lewin, who scored once again in Leeds’ impressive victory over Crystal Palace.

His return to form has been spectacular, yet also timely, with Shearer piling praise on the Englishman in his latest Team of the Week selection.

Calvert-Lewin named in Premier League Team of the Week

Calvert-Lewin had scored one in nine prior to this sudden revival from the Whites, where he has since scored six goals in his last five.

The 28-year-old netted twice in Leeds’ victory over Crystal Palace at the weekend, becoming the first Whites star to score in five successive games since Mark Viduka achieved the feat back in 2003.

That sudden upturn in form has seen Calvert-Lewin earmarked for England at the World Cup, and even Shearer has backed the Leeds star to achieve that.

Via the Premier League, the former Newcastle and Three Lions star said: “There’s no stopping him at the moment! Two goals and a fantastic all-round display. Could an England recall be on the cards?”

His form suddenly makes a good case for it, and based on that, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better English striker in the Premier League.

However, if he were to get a call-up at the next opportunity in 2026, it would be the first time his form has been recognised with the achievement since 2021.

Farke also gets praise from Shearer

Farke looked nailed on for the sack just a few weeks ago, and now he is a genuine candidate for December’s Manager of the Month award.

All of the eyes will be on Calvert-Lewin‘s revival, but the German boss deserves just as much attention for the way he has changed the style at Leeds, and to good effect.

However, in the eyes of Shearer, that also hasn’t gone unnoticed, with Farke named as his Manager of the Week.

“You wouldn’t know that Crystal Palace had the best away record going into this match by the way Farke’s Leeds team clinically dispatched them,” Shearer said on his inclusion.
