Alan Shearer makes surprising prediction for Leeds vs Liverpool showdown as Elland Road claim is made
Alan Shearer believes that the atmosphere at Elland Road could give Leeds an edge against Liverpool as he previews this weekend’s games.
The Peacocks have already pulled off one shock this week when Leeds overcame Chelsea 3-1 on Wednesday.
This has helped relieve the pressure on Daniel Farke at Elland Road, with the manager now pulling the West Yorkshire club out of the relegation zone.
However, the fixtures do not get any easier, with Liverpool now set to travel to Elland Road on Saturday.

Alan Shearer: I can’t back Liverpool to win given Elland Road’s atmosphere
Elland Road has been a fortress since Leeds United’s promotion back into the top-flight.
So far this season, almost all of the Peacocks’ points have come at home, barring their 3-1 win over Wolves at Molineux.
Much of this is down to the atmosphere that the Leeds supporters provide, making it a tough place for any opponent to visit.
Now, with an out-of-form Liverpool visiting the stadium on Saturday, Alan Shearer told the Metro on 5 December that the atmosphere may have a part to play as he backs Leeds to earn a shock win.
- Leeds have not beaten Liverpool at home in the league since 2000
- Liverpool come into the match on awful form and are ninth in the table
- In comparison, Leeds are 17th, eight points off their upcoming opponents
He said: “Again, how can I say Liverpool will win with any confidence? Especially when you consider what the atmosphere will be like. Leeds will go after them. I can’t say Liverpool are going to win, I find it difficult to say.”
“So, I’m going to say Leeds home win. I don’t see anything in Liverpool that gives me any confidence that I can say that they’re going to win.
“There is nothing in Liverpool’s game that I saw in midweek, and I’ve seen in them this season that I could say with hand and heart that they’re going to go there and win because I just don’t think you can.”
What has Daniel Farke said ahead of the Liverpool clash?
Despite Liverpool’s misfortunes of late, any manager would be a fool to underestimate the current champions.
While the Reds have only won one of their last four Premier League games, they are still a side packed with quality.
Farke was quick to make this clear in his recent press conference and told BBC Sport on 4 December that he expects Liverpool to recover before the season’s end.
He stated: “They are still a top-class side, they are the reigning champions, fully deserved last season, they were excellent.
“Of course, a lot of fluctuation in the summer and even for them, over the course of 38 games, you will sometimes have a period where the results don’t go in your way.
“They are two points off the Champions League positions, and I have no doubt in my mind that come the crunch period of the season, they will be back for the fight for the Champions League and also for the title.”
