Alan Pardew in agreement at what he’s told about Leeds United after Portsmouth loss

Alan Pardew was less than impressed with what he saw from Leeds United in their 1-0 defeat to Portsmouth on Sunday.

The Whites are still top of the Championship table, but level on points with Sheffield United and only two ahead of Burnley in third.

After failing to go up last season through the playoffs, automatic promotion is the only goal, especially after the recent wins over Sheffield United and Sunderland.

Pardew believes Leeds will be starting to worry

Leeds may have won three of their last five Championship games, but after picking up only one point from the last six available, nerves are creeping in.

Of course, it’s not the end of the world and they’re still very much in contention to go up to the Premier League but unless they can get back to winning ways, they could find themselves in the dreaded playoffs once again.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (9 March) Pardew and Majestic gave their verdicts on Leeds’ performance.

“Pompey boys beating Leeds 1-0, Leeds always getting so close and then at the end it all seems to fall off a little bit,” Majestic said.

Pardew replied: “Yeah they’ll be getting a little bit nervous-nelly this week won’t they.”

Farke needs to sharpen things up at Elland Road

Going into the final 12 games of the season, these next few matches will be crucial.

There’s no denying that Leeds have been one of the best teams in the Championship this season, but after a couple of slip-ups such as their loss against Portsmouth, any promotion hopes could end up being in tatters.

That is unless Daniel Farke can turn things around quickly, starting with Millwall at Elland Road on Wednesday evening (12 March).

Players such as Dan James and Manor Solomon have been shining lights this term and as they’ve not been at their best over the last couple of weeks, Leeds have suffered.

With an early kick off at Queens Park Rangers to follow on Saturday before the last international break of the season, Farke is under severe pressure now.

Burnley and Sheffield United still have each other to play, which works in Leeds’ favour, but they need to start worrying about themselves, not those around them.

Promotion to the Premier League is on the line.
