Alan Brazil reacts to Red Bull news with Leeds United question live on air

Alan Brazil has questioned what impact Jurgen Klopp’s appointment at Red Bull will have on Leeds United.

Speaking on talkSPORT (9 October, 9:25am), Brazil was puzzled that the Whites were left out of a press briefing announcing Klopp as Red Bull’s new global head of football.

The energy drink giant purchased a minority shareholding at Elland Road in May alongside a record-breaking shirt sponsorship deal, but the Whites are not classed among their stable of rebranded clubs.

Brazil said: “Jurgen Klopp has got himself a new job, it’s a strange one, this, as the new global head of soccer at Red Bull – now don’t forget they own Leeds.

“He’ll be responsible at the strategic management level of Red Bull’s international network of clubs: RB Leipzig, Red Bull Salzburg, and of course New York Red Bulls as well.

“Why not Leeds? What’s wrong with Leeds? – I think they have a minority stake in Leeds United don’t they?”

Jurgen Klopp could fast-track Red Bull influence at Leeds United

Upon taking the reins in Red Bull’s global football department in January 2025, Klopp will immediately be the individual with the most knowledge and experience of English football and the Premier League.

Although Red Bull have since signed energy drink partnerships with sides in England such as Newcastle United and Everton, Elland Road remains the only place where they have a seat in the boardroom.

As a result, and as their first official foray into English football, the Whites could see the influence of Red Bull skyrocket following the appointment of Klopp.

The 49ers Enterprises may have publicly declared that there are no plans for Red Bull’s minority stake to become a majority one any time soon, but that could all change a few years down the track.

If Klopp can play any hand in helping Leeds back to the Premier League next year, the Austrian giants will become much more popular in LS11, there is no doubting that.
