Alan Brazil has his say on Leeds' defensive problems after the Whites narrowly avoid relegation

Alan Brazil believes Leeds United “can’t concede” goals like they have done this year as Jesse Marsch’s side prepare for another year of Premier League football.

Only bottom side Norwich City have conceded more goals than Leeds’ 79 this season.

Brazil has suggested that the Whites must rectify their habit of gifting goals away in their Premier League campaign next season.

Talking on talkSPORT Breakfast on Thursday [06:39, 26 May] Brazil said: “You can’t concede the goals Leeds did this season.

“It was almost as if they were going out there at times and thinking you score four we will score five and you can’t do that.”

Fun whilst it lasted

Leeds United can thank Marcelo Bielsa for their habit of turning matches into basketball matches at times.

It is without a doubt entertaining for the Elland Road faithful, but there certainly needs to be a balance between entertainment and results.

Since Marsch’s arrival, there has been definitely been a more conservative side to Leeds’ Philosophy and that was a requisition.

If the Whites had continued their maverick ways then there would’ve been a very good chance that they would be preparing for a season in the Championship at present.

The players do need to take some responsibility as well.

The lack of quality, cohesion and discipline has cost Leeds at times this season, coupled with plenty of injury issues.

Marsch should be looking to build from the back.

Successful teams are built off of a strong defensive structure, it is simply not realistic to win matches when having to score three or four goals to simply stay in the game.

In other Leeds news, Leeds are keen to tick off another piece of business in the coming weeks to follow Brenden Aaronson’s imminent arrival
