Alan Brazil clashes with Ray Parlour over Bielsa trophy record
Alan Brazil has questioned Marcelo Bielsa after the Leeds United boss was linked with a move to Tottenham.
Shebahn Aherne talked about Mark Irwin’s story in The Sun [print edition, 30/04] on talkSPORT breakfast, with the Sun journalist asking why Daniel Levy is not looking at Bielsa.
Brazil quickly stepped in and raised a point that sparked a small debate with Aherne and Ray Parlour.
Brazil said, “He’s had a great season, brilliant season.”
“Phenomenal, but there’s something about him as a man…,” Aherne quickly agreed.
Brazil then cut her off, “Sorry Shebahn, I’ll be honest, he was a bit of an unknown guy for me when he came to Leeds…but is he a serial winner, has he won trophies?”
“He won the Championship,” answered Parlour.
But Brazil had the final say, adding, “Has he won anything in the big leagues?”. The trio discussed Bielsa’s apology for not learning English [Sky Sports].
Going nowhere
Bielsa is more than capable of being successful at Tottenham and the truth is that Levy should be trying to make him Spurs’ next manager.
We should not be worried though, as the Argentine seems very happy and settled at Leeds – he has been with us longer than his previous three clubs combined.
We have a project in place that Bielsa started and we are sure he wants to finish it by guiding us into Europe or winning more silverware.
Brazil can disparage him all he wants but we know Bielsa is one of the best managers in the league and many of our rivals are jealous that we have him.
After all, there are few managers who would have got us promoted, let alone helped us to a top ten finish, which looks like a guarantee at present.
And he has done it with a squad that, for the most part, has never played in the top-flight, which is quite a remarkable achievement.
