Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist stunned by Leeds United drama under Sam Allardyce already live on talkSPORT

Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist have shared their astonishment at the news that Sammy Lee isn’t able to join Sam Allardyce’s coaching staff at Leeds United because he is on jury duty.

Allardyce, 68, replaced the outgoing Javi Gracia on Wednesday (3 May) as the new Leeds boss for the remaining four games of the Premier League season, with the club currently only sitting outside the relegation zone on goal difference.

Despite wanting Lee to join his backroom staff, the former Liverpool midfielder wasn’t able to take the job in West Yorkshire because of current jury service, which both Brazil and McCoist were stunned at when speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast (Thursday, 4 May).

“Did I read today about Sammy Lee, normally, he takes Sammy with him?” Brazil said [3:30].

“He’s on jury duty, I couldn’t believe that,” McCoist replied.

Brazil added: “Oh dear, I know, I know.”

Comical situation

The whole Lee and Allardyce jury drama really sums up the situation that Leeds United find themselves in right now.

Just over a year ago, the club were in the hands of Marcelo Bielsa, but now Big Sam has been brought back from the wilderness for one last hurrah at Elland Road.

the fall from grace of the club over the last year has been quite remarkable, and they must now be considered one of the two favourites to go down alongside the relegation-doomed Southampton.

Although there is a comical side to Lee not being able to team up with his partner in crime, it will also have some serious implications for Allardyce.

Every manager has their favourite first-team coaching staff, from Mikel Arteta under Pep Guardiola all the way to Mike Phelan and Sir Alex Ferguson.

Not having Lee by his side will be a blow to the new Leeds manager, but hopefully, he still has enough tools at his disposal to stave off relegation over the next month.

In other Leeds United news, Gary Lineker has provided his reaction to the appointment of Sam Allardyce as the club’s new head coach for the remainder of the season.
