Alan Brazil admits he was wrong with Leeds United transfer assumption live on talkSPORT

Alan Brazil has admitted Leeds United have so far proven him wrong in the early stages of the season.

The talkSPORT host and former Manchester United striker said he feared for Daniel Farke’s side after selling an array of their best players, but the team secured an unbeaten August, winning their last two.

Next up is the challenge of Burnley at Elland Road, a club anticipated to be rivalling the Whites for a place back in the Premier League come the business end of the campaign.

Brazil, speaking live on talkSPORT Breakfast with Dean Saunders [13 September, 06:58], said: “I thought Leeds were going to struggle a bit with the players they’ve sold, but no.”

Leeds United proving the pundits wrong

While Leeds United eventually saw their hand forced to sell the likes of Georginio Rutter, Crysencio Summerville and Archie Gray to Premier League clubs, they still have with one of – if not the – strongest squads in the Championship.

The club and Farke would have been fully prepared to lose some of their top talent the second the full-time whistle at Wembley brought the curtain down on an agonising end to 2023-24.

There have certainly been positives – tying down Willy Gnonto to a new contract, a man maligned in the past for the way he has previously attempted to leave Elland Road, is huge.

Leeds remain light in certain areas with a small squad, and did miss out on multiple targets, but the outlook after the transfer deadline looked far better than in days previous, as Manor Solomon, Ao Tanaka and Isaac Schmidt all arrived very late.

Two draws to begin the season did bring some reservations, but the two wins to succeed it and the promising end to the window has reignited the belief in West Yorkshire.
