Al-Taawoun make transfer approach for Leeds United attacker Helder Costa

Al-Taawoun made an approach to sign Leeds United attacker Helder Costa three weeks ago, according to Ben Jacobs.

The CBS Sports journalist told Give Me Sport on Friday (8 September) that the team second in the Saudi Pro League are keen on signing the 29-year-old.

It’s understood that the Angola international is not a part of Daniel Farke’s plans for the 2023/24 season.

Jacobs said, “There had been a few Saudi enquiries, and also in Turkey. We need to wait and see what happens. There’s a possibility that he will leave for sure. On the Saudi side, he received an approach about three weeks ago from Al-Taawoun, and Al-Shabab, under their old board, had explored a deal.”

Get him out

There was plenty of hype surrounding Costa when he joined Elland Road and fans were intrigued as to what he can do at the club.

According to talkSPORT, the Whites paid a mammoth £16million to Wolves to secure the attacker’s services in 2020.

However, this move has not materialised and he’s just hogging up space on the payroll with no club really making any advances.

The Saudi window shuts on Thursday so if Al-Taawoun or any other club wanted to sign him desperately then they would’ve acted quickly.

Costa spent last season on loan at Al Ittihad and ended up winning the league but they don’t seem too keen on wanting him back.

It remains to be seen if Leeds can succeed in getting him off their books before all the windows in Europe close.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites tabled multiple enquiries to sign a multi-million international winger ahead of the transfer deadline.
