Agent gets Leeds United fact completely wrong as he talks about Wilfried Gnonto transfer
Italian agent Marco Busiellois has made a false claim suggesting Willy Gnonto is the first Italian player to play for Leeds United.
Busiellois has clearly not done his research, with there being a number of Italians who have featured for the Whites over the years.
He was an important part of the deal which saw the 19-year-old move to Elland Road and suggested the Yorkshire side were happy because they purchased their “first Italian player.”
“It was an operation born and carried out together. And that made everyone happy: Leeds because they were able to buy their first Italian player, the boy was happy because he made the leap of quality and also Zurich, capable of monetizing one year after the expiry of the contract,” said Busiellois (Tuttomercatoweb, 15 December).
Including Gnonto, eight Italians have pulled on the famous white jersey over the years (stats from World Football), which makes the agent’s claim look rather silly. As for Gnonto, it appears he has settled into life at Elland Road extremely well.
Jesse Marsch has managed the youngster’s development perfectly with the American starting to integrate him slowly into his first team plans. He has already shown his quality with his lung-busting run against Bournemouth the catalyst for Crysencio Summerville’s late winner.
It would not be a surprise to see the youngster start more games when Leeds get their Premier League campaign back underway against Manchester City. It’s a tough test for the Whites to get their season back underway, but the Leeds’ boss will be hoping his side can make life difficult for the Premier League champions.
In other Leeds United news, talks are underway over this player quitting Elland Road for a high-paid contract.
