Agent drops Charlie Cresswell update as interest gathers pace in Leeds United man

Charlie Creswell’s agent, Hayden Evans, has revealed there is interest in the 20-year-old Leeds United defender ahead of the summer window.

Cresswell has been enjoying a promising loan spell at Championship side Millwall but could miss the rest of the campaign with an eye injury.

Talking on the latest episode of the Phil Hay Show, Evans revealed a decision could well be made in the summer when it comes to his future.

“Outside interest has escalated as we thought it would,” said Evans (Phil Hay Show, 16m 42s, 14 April).

“Yeah [he nearly left permanently] and there were no real objections from Leeds if the right price was found but I think that may have changed.

“A new manager will want everyone in preseason so they can make their own assessments and he’s doing what we know he’s capable of.

“There’s no rush apart from Leeds maybe at some point. Yeah [it’s a summer decision], now there’s only a handful of games left, the interest is there.”

It’s clear that Cresswell needs to be playing regularly in order to develop in the right way. His loan spell at Millwall has largely been a success and it’s refreshing to see the way he’s managed during his time in South London.

However, if there are two or three players ahead of him in the pecking order at Elland Road, then a summer departure could well be on the cards. It’s up to whoever the manager is in the summer to assess whether the 20-year-old is part of his plans.

With the money present in the Premier League, it’s becoming harder and harder for younger players to come through academy systems and make an impact. Considering his performances for Millwall, Cresswell is certainly deserving of the chance to show what he can do.

It would be a crying shame to see the youngster depart West Yorkshire without reaching his full potential. This is one to keep a close eye on when the window does open.
