Agbonlahor shares ultimate Brentford fear after conversation with Leeds United fan

Leeds United are one of many teams undergoing a summer of change ready for the 2025/26 Premier League campaign.

Daniel Farke is aiming to make multiple improvements to his squad to combat the challenges of the English top flight. However, many of his fellow Premier League rivals are getting weaker.

Brentford lost their manager, Thomas Frank, on Thursday (12 June) after he moved to Tottenham.

On top of this, many of the Bees’ stars have been subsequently linked away from the London club, with Bryan Mbuemo’s future in particular unclear.

Agbonlahor fears Brentford relegation after Thomas Frank departure

With Leeds United now returning to the Premier League, the task for Farke is to keep the Peacocks in the top flight.

For the past two years, no team that has been promoted from the Championship has even been close to staying up.

Therefore, if Leeds were to stay in the division, the question on every fan’s mind is who would go down instead.

Given Brentford’s recent overhaul, Gabby Agbonlahor is fearful that the Bees could “easily go down” if they get their next manager appointment wrong.

He told talkSPORT (13 June): “They have to get it right. You know why? I was speaking to a Leeds fans last week and he said ‘Gabby, of the three teams coming up, Leeds have the best chance of staying up.’

“If they do, then who’s going down if Leeds stay up? If you look at last season, Man United and Spurs will get better, West Ham will get better.

“So the likes of Palace, Brighton, Bournemouth have to be careful. If Brentford let too many players go and get the manager appoint wrong, they could easily go down.”

Leeds United have to take advantage of Brentford transition

Whoever Brentford bring in, he is unlikely to do better than Frank, who had been working miracles at the London club.

Therefore, it is extremely likely that the Bees could fall into a relegation battle next season, especially if they lose some of their top stars.

Newly promoted teams points tallys
Sheffield United – 2023/2416
Burnley – 2023/2424
Luton Town – 2023/2426
Southampton – 2024/2512
Ipswich Town – 2024/2522
Leicester City – 2024/2525
No newly promoted Premier League side has even hit 30 points in the last two seasons

If this happens, Leeds simply have to take advantage. This will be the best chance Farke and the Peacocks have of staying in the division as the turmoil unfolds at the London club.

While it will be a difficult task, it is a doable one given Leeds are looking to splash the cash this summer.

Hopefully Paraag Marathe will oversee multiple quality signings in the coming weeks to ensure that the Peacocks can compete with Brentford next season
