Agbonlahor responds to ‘very disrespectful’ Leeds accusation live on talkSPORT

Gabby Agbonlahor has got himself into hot water with some Leeds United supporters.

Although Leeds have had a strong season, a recent dip in form saw them drop to third in the Championship table, out of the automatic promotion spots.

Victory against Middlesbrough on Tuesday (8 April), while Burnley and Sheffield United dropped points elsewhere, has seen Daniel Farke’s men regain their place at the top of the league.

However, Agbonlahor’s comments before that match may mean he is not feeling as pleased as the Leeds fans.

Agbonlahor responds to Leeds claim

By now, Leeds supporters have had to get used to the jibes about falling apart again when results take a dip later on in the season.

With Farke’s side failing to win three games in a row, there were concerns that history could have been repeating itself again this season too.

As ever, pundits were keen to add their input on the matter and Agbonlahor was no exception as he joked about Leeds on talkSPORT.

However, his comments did not go down well with one supporter, who rang into the show to call him out and say (8 April, 9:38am): “The problem I’ve got with you Gabby, is you’ve got a real problem towards my football club and I do find, with all due respect mate, you’re very very disrespectful and the problem is you were never good enough to play for Leeds anyway. Let’s be honest about that.”

Agbonlahor was quick to brush the comments off as he sarcastically replied: “I agree mate, terrible player. I agree, I was a terrible player. I agree.”

Farke can’t let Leeds drop again

After the victory against Middlesbrough saw the Whites return to the top of the table, there can be a sigh of relief from Elland Road that any crisis may have been averted.

However, Farke needs to use this to motivate his side now and remind them of the feelings they had as they dropped out of the automatic promotion places recently.

It’s not just about football in this respect, either, because as soon as Leeds look like they could be set to fall at the final hurdle, it creates plenty of conversation around the West Yorkshire outfit.

The jokes of those like Agbonlahor can rub supporters up the wrong way but there was even debate about Farke’s future with worries that Leeds would fall off again.

The top of the Championship table is incredibly tight and Leeds are currently level on points with Burnley, ahead on goal difference.

With this in mind, there is no space to get comfortable again and the German manager must make sure his side get their form back on track with the crucial part of the season lying ahead.

Leeds host Preston at Elland Road on Saturday (12 April) in another early kick-off and three of their four remaining games after that are against relegation-threatened sides.

In theory, this should give the Whites a favourable run-in, but dropped points against Portsmouth and Luton Town of late should remind Leeds that they cannot rest up until their aims have been met.
