Outspoken talkSPORT host Adrian Durham has admitted he’s been proven wrong by Leeds United star Stuart Dallas this season.

Dallas, 29, has been in sensational form for the Whites this season and capped his first Premier League campaign with a last-minute winner at Manchester City on Saturday.

The Northern Ireland scored both goals as 10-man Leeds won all three points at the Etihad and Durham has since claimed the Elland Road star should be a shoo-in for the PFA team of the year.

Leeds United

“Leeds’ win at Man City was something else. It was sensational,” said Durham, as shown via talkSPORT’s official Twitter account on Monday.

“You’re thinking, ‘they’ve done well, they’ve opened the scoring but let’s sit back and see what City have got’. And then they have Liam Cooper sent off and you’re genuinely thinking, I said this at half-time on talkSPORT, ‘how are Leeds, how is Bielsa going to approach this second-half?’ Because it wouldn’t be like him to do what a lot of managers would do and pack everyone behind the ball and try to hold the 1-0 lead or play it out for a 1-1.

“He had a plan – it was a magnificent plan as well. And it worked. But it only worked because of the quality Leeds’ individual players have got and in Stuart Dallas, they’ve got one of the most versatile players in the Premier League this season – one of the best players in the Premier League this season.

“I think it will be a bit of a travesty if he isn’t included in the PFA team of the year because he’s been that effective and that versatile. This game showed what he can do.

“That run he made for the winner – wow. I mean, that’s out of nowhere.

“You’re not talking about an orthodox striker here, you’re talking about somebody who was playing full-back last season but he’s a midfielder as well and he can do the lot.

“Whatever Bielsa asks him to do, he does it to the very best of his ability and that’s normally incredibly effective and that’s the kind of player Bielsa wants.

“That’s why Stuart Dallas has defied what I thought he could do by being an effective Premier League player. Seriously impressive win at the weekend for Leeds United.”

Nothing new for us

Everyone else might be shocked by Dallas’ performances in the Premier League but not us.

Well, we might have been a little bit stunned on Saturday when he scored that late winner at the Etihad but other than that, his strong performances are somewhat expected now.

Dallas can play almost anywhere on the pitch and wherever he’s told to play by Marcelo Bielsa, he shines.

He’s been called upon to play in the midfielder more often lately due to injury issues and even if players return from their spells out, we cannot justify seeing Dallas drop back to left-back or something.

The ex-Brentford ace has been outstanding there.

Last season, he was arguably Leeds’ best player as they won promotion from the Championship and this season, he’s up there again.

Who else is a genuine contender to win the Leeds player of the year award? Raphinha, Patrick Bamford and Dallas – they have to be the top three, right?

Dallas is a no-brainer to win that award based on his performances and we hope the Northern Irishman really starts to get the credit he deserves.

In other Leeds United news, an Argentine journalist has ripped into Bielsa and Leeds despite the win against Manchester City.
