Adrian Durham: Kalvin Phillips nickname is "cringey"
Adrian Durham has labelled the nickname of Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips as “cringey” this week.
The Yorkshire Pirlo as he is known at Elland Road has seen his name go around Europe as he shines for England at EURO 2020.
Phillips shined against Croatia in the opening game, and that led to his nickname grabbing more traction on international television.
Writing on his personal Twitter account over the weekend, Durham felt the need to wipe away his tears with this latest verdict.
“Must admit it’s only actually being here in Italy does it sink in just how cringey it is that Phillips is compared to Pirlo,” he said.
“I’m a Phillips fan but that comparison doesn’t stand in any way. I sense Italian football lovers are offended by it.”
This is obviously a tongue-in-cheek nickname, and everyone is so offended by it obviously needs to calm down and get a grip.
Durham is one of those pundits who if he isn’t in the headlines, is sat at home with tears in his eyes and has to work to make sure he is.
Phillips is the most down to earth figure there is, not just in the Leeds squad, but England too, and has had to endure pointless attacks on his family all week.
All he needs is for another figure on social media with thousands of followers to jump on the bandwagon, and then try to defend it by saying he’s a fan.
Whether you’re in Italy or not, it doesn’t mean you have to flaunt it online and start firing shots at Phillips for something he didn’t even start or has no say in whatsoever.
Embarrassing from Durham yet again.
