Adam Pope slams ‘really poor’ Aaronson after what he did for Leeds United

Adam Pope believes the performance Brenden Aaronson put on for Leeds United in their Championship clash against Blackburn on Saturday was “really poor“.

The Whites lost the game 1-0 to drop down to third in the table and are now three points adrift of league leaders Sheffield United.

Speaking on the Don’t Go To Bed Just Yet Podcast (2 December), BBC journalist Pope slammed the form the United States international currently finds himself in.

“A few of the decisions didn’t go Leeds’ way but, overall, it was just nowhere near the level that they’ve been lately,” he said.

“If you get behind like that, you’re not going to recover. Too many people had off days, [Junior] Firpo and [Brenden] Aaronson for me had really poor games.”

Later in the podcast, the topic of Aaronson’s form was revisited and Pope added some context behind why the US international was poor against Rovers.

“Aaronson struggled, yes he played well in midweek, [but] he did not play well at the weekend and he just doesn’t do ‘10’ things,” he added.

“I would rather see [Willy] Gnonto in there and try something different because it just isn’t working for them.”

Daniel Farke needs to axe Brenden Aaronson from his Leeds United starting XI

Aaronson may well be the only natural number 10 that the West Yorkshire outfit have within their ranks but when some of his last few performances are taken into account, it’s evident that there’s too much of a creative burden being placed upon his shoulders.

Of course, the job of an attacking midfielder is to link up play between the midfield and the attack and perhaps chip in with the odd goal here and there but in the US international’s case, he hardly seems to be creating anything.

Granted, he has bagged four Championship goals this season but the fact he’s only assisted his teammates once in the second tier should be a cause for concern.

It was evident in the summer that Farke wanted to bring in another number 10 for cover with reported moves being made for both Roland Sallai and Gustavo Hamer.

Time is of the essence in football and if Leeds don’t pick their form up soon, by the time the end of the season comes back around, it could end in misery for the West Yorkshire outfit once again.
