Adam Pope shares update on Will Ferrell attendance at Wembley for Leeds United v Southampton
Leeds United investor Will Ferrell will not attend the Whites playoff final clash against Southampton at Wembley, according to Adam Pope.
The BBC broadcaster reported via X on Friday (24 May) that the famous Hollywood actor who has recently become a stakeholder at Elland Road will not make the trip to London for Sunday’s (26 May) clash.
Previous reports had suggested that Ferrell had planned for the Wembley showpiece to be his first Leeds match following his investment [The Sun, 11 May] but those plans now appear to have fallen through.
Writing on X, Pope said: “Investor Will Ferrell will not be at Wembley on Sunday.”
It had originally been reported that Ferrell had become a “major investor” at Elland Road [The Sun, 4 May], but Athletic journalist Phil Hay (5 May) has since clarified that the actor is only a “minority” investor in the project.
Will Will Ferrell attend the playoff final between Leeds United and Southampton at Wembley?
The news of Ferrell’s investment brought plenty of excitement to Leeds United from a media perspective and while that has been tempered slightly by the revelation he is a minority investor, it is still an exciting prospect.
Ferrell’s name is one known around the world and his connection to the club alongside 49ers Enterprises and the likes of Russell Crowe will only be a good thing for Daniel Farke’s side off of the playing field in the future.
Ultimately, it won’t make a huge amount of difference to supporters that the Hollywood star won’t be in the crowd at Wembley on Sunday. Their focus, much like the team’s, will be fixed on making an immediate return to the Premier League.
Had a couple more results gone their way earlier in the season, the Whites could have already booked their place in the top flight. Instead, they’re going to have to do things the difficult way and beat Russell Martin’s side in a one-off shoot-out.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites have been tipped to sack Farke this summer if they miss out on promotion via the playoffs
