Adam Pope: Leeds talent Joe Gelhardt has picked up fresh injury

Leeds United forward Joe Gelhardt has picked up an injury in training this week, according to BBC journalist Adam Pope.

The former Wigan talent has missed the Premier League draw against Manchester United, and also the under-23s clash with Fulham this afternoon.

Marcelo Bielsa instead called upon Sam Greenwood into his senior squad, and the striker also scored the only goal against Fulham.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Pope shared the big update on the Whites sensation after he missed this weekend’s action.

“Greenwood now one goal behind Gelhardt who I understand has picked up a slight injury in training so hence he’s not been involved over the last two days,” he said.

Unfortunate.

Gelhardt has been sensational for the under-23s since arriving from Wigan in the summer, and there have been serious calls for him to make his senior debut.

Despite numerous appearances on the bench in the Premier League, the 18-year-old is yet to get onto the pitch for the first team.

Beren Cross of Leeds Live labelled the striker as potentially one of the best pieces of business completed at Elland Road, and that is a major claim to make.

With only one more under-23s game to go this season against Burnley next week, there will be a handful of young talents available for the Premier League matches.

If you asked each Whites fan which talent they would want to see this season, the large majority would likely say Gelhardt; let’s hope this injury isn’t too serious.
