Adam Pope has no issue with what Lewis Travis did in Blackburn v Leeds United

Adam Pope had no issue with Blackburn Rovers ace Lewis Travis disrupting the flow of the game against Leeds United despite Daniel Farke’s protestations.

The Whites succumbed to a 1-0 defeat at Ewood Park in their Championship clash against Rovers on 30 November and fell down to third place in the second tier.

Writing for the BBC Sport website (4 December), BBC journalist Pope reacted to Farke’s inference about Travis killing time to help John Eustace’s men towards three points.

“Current manager Daniel Farke, in the wake of the 1-0 defeat at Ewood Park, without naming the Blackburn Rovers captain, pointed the finger at Lewis Travis for blatantly disrupting the flow of the match by going to ground,” he wrote.

“Farke feels the spirit of the game has diminished somewhat. ‘Sometimes I got the feeling I love this country because we were never soft… and when someone was cheating and wasting time, even their home fans were booing him off’.

“‘I like this mentality, even with my German passport. I always loved English football. Sometimes we remember on the way we are celebrating a player when he’s wasting time. I don’t like this attitude but perhaps I’m a bit old school in these terms’.

“Fair play? It will not have seemed to many. But for others – fair play to the lad for pushing the parameters to the maximum to secure the win,” Pope added.

Leeds United need to pick up their Championship form

When looking at the talent of the squads in the Championship, it’s evident that Leeds have one of, if not the strongest teams in the second tier.

They spent a fair amount of money in the summer to try and avoid being dragged into yet another playoff scrap but at the moment, that seems to be the way things are heading.

Granted, the team did make a decent amount of money in the summer thanks to the sales of players such as Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter but, with the talent they still have within their ranks, such as Dan James, they should easily be outperforming most Championship teams.

It’s hard to say how many more points the Whites can drop from now until the end of the season before it gets to the point where they’re out of the title race, but if they don’t knuckle back down soon, they could find themselves in a world of playoff pain once again.
