Adam Forshaw suffered calf strain before Leeds United win v Watford, Phil Hay details timescale

Adam Forshaw was ruled out of Leeds United’s 3-0 win over Watford with a calf strain, according to The Athletic journalist Phil Hay.

Forshaw, 30, failed to play for just the second time since 31 October as he missed the Whites’ huge win at Vicarage Road yesterday [9 April].

Writing via his personal Twitter account today, Hay reports that Jesse Marsch doesn’t think it’s a serious injury for Forshaw and that the midfielder should be back in training next week.

Not ideal

Forshaw has been vital for Leeds this season and you can make a really solid case for him winning the Yorkshire club’s player of the year.

However, it wasn’t ideal for him to miss Leeds’ 3-0 hammering of Watford at Vicarage Road.

Mateusz Klich and Robin Koch started in the deeper-lying midfield area and both did brilliantly while Kalvin Phillips continued his comeback with an appearance off the bench.

They say you shouldn’t change a winning team and that might be on Marsch’s mind when he prepares for Leeds’ next game, which is against Crystal Palace on 25 April.

With over two weeks between now and then, players like Phillips and Forshaw have a lot of time to get back to full fitness.

But what about Klich and Koch? Can Marsch justify leaving them two out when his side played so well at Watford?

We should be safe now, we’d be shocked if we get sucked back into the relegation battle in the Premier League.

There’s no rush to bring Forshaw back so he might not risk it.
