Adam Forshaw sends three-word message to Alfie McCalmont after Leeds United transfer sealed

Adam Forshaw has sent a three-word message to Leeds United teammate Alfie McCalmont on Instagram after the club confirmed his departure to Carlisle United.

The 23-year-old academy graduate’s 16-year stay at Elland Road was brought to a close on Tuesday (27 June) as the club revealed he had sealed a transfer to the League One side for an undisclosed fee.

The central midfielder made no senior league appearances for the Whites but completed three loan spells in the EFL with Morecambe, Oldham Athletic and Carlisle United.

McCalmont took to Instagram to send a message to fans after his departure was confirmed, with a number of players, including Forshaw, sending their best wishes for his future endeavours.

He wrote: “Good luck mate.”

Correct decision

McCalmont never quite managed to break into the first-team ranks at Elland Road, and now at the age of 23, it is time for him to progress in his career elsewhere.

After three successful loan spells, it was now or never for the midfielder at Leeds, and the club have decided that a move into the EFL would be best for all parties involved.

During his time with Carlisle last season, he helped the club to reach the League 2 playoff final at Wembley where the club beat Stockport County on penalties to secure promotion.

From a Leeds United perspective, this is a smart bit of business, with McCalmont never looking likely to get consistent game time in West Yorkshire but taking up space on the books.

The Whites have to go back to the drawing board in their attempts to bounce straight back up to the Premier League, and sanctioning transfers such as this is a good place to start.
