Adam Forshaw names Leeds first teamer he had ‘never heard’ of before 19/20
Leeds United midfielder has admitted that he had “never heard” of Elland Road loanee Ben White before this season.
The 22-year-old has established himself as a firm favourite in Yorkshire since arriving on a temporary deal from Brighton last summer, and has registered 40 appearances across all competitions.
And while Forshaw now believes that the youngster is capable of playing at the highest level of English football, he has also admitted that he wasn’t aware of him before he signed for the Whites last year.
Speaking to the Leeds That podcast, he said: “I think Ben would be a good fit for a top team in the Premier League, he’s a top lad and he’s got everything to go all the way”
“I joked with him at the start of the season. I said: ‘I’ll be honest you turned up and I didn’t even know who you were. I’d never heard of you’.”
To be fair to Forshaw, not many Leeds fans would have been overly familiar with White when he first joined the club last summer.
The loanee could hardly have done more to alter that over the past season though.
White has established himself as one of the most important players in Marcelo Bielsa’s squad, and has been steeped in praise all campaign.
Noel Whelan has argued that he could be “the new Harry Maguire”, while Keith Andrews has called the defender “phenomenal”.
The fact that Liverpool are said to be interested in him is a pretty sound indication of just how impressive he has been this term, and the only downside to his meteoric form is that it will hugely diminish Leeds’ chances of keeping him at Elland Road next term, with Brighton already making it quite clear that they intend to keep him at the club for the foreseeable future.
