Adam Forshaw ‘massive’ verdict dropped as Leeds United contract development emerges

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson has backed injury-plagued Adam Forshaw to make an impact for Leeds United next season should he sign a contract to remain at the club.

Forshaw’s career has been beset by injury, his worst keeping him out of action for nearly 700 days [The Athletic], but after returning to the side in the home stretch of the Premier League season in April the club has offered him a new contract [Daily Mail].

However, Forshaw has been a reliable and quality asset in his six-year spell at Leeds and has been rewarded with a contract offer for his commitment, which has not yet been accepted by the 31-year-old.

Paul Robinson notes that Forshaw is the type of personality that Leeds will need in their promotion bid next season, not just due to his quality on the ball but due to his understanding of the club as a whole.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “Adam has been very unfortunate with injury in the last 12 to 18 months. He’s a leader on and off the field and I think we saw what he gave the team at the end of last season.

“With Javi Gracia and Sam Allardyce, they both utilised him when they could. If you get a fully fit Adam Forshaw next season, it’ll be a huge asset next season.

“I’m delighted that the club has offered him a new contract, I hope he signs and stays at the club. Him, Liam Cooper and Luke Ayling, are the types of players and characters who understand the club, not just the Championship, and who knows what it means to play for Leeds United.

“Having those kinds of players around when you’re integrating new players around is massive. And What Adam can give you on the pitch is massive as well. The application is never in question, so I was delighted when they offered him a new deal.”

In other Leeds United news, Robinson predicts a Tyler Adams exit this summer which only adds to the Whites’ need for recruitment.
