Adam Forshaw gets hero’s reception on Leeds United return

Adam Forshaw came off the bench to “huge cheers” on Tuesday night when he played for Leeds United in their 3-2 win over Guiseley, according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Lee Sobot.

It has been an excruciating two years for the 29-year-old midfielder, who’s battled through serious injury issues to return to action in the pre-season friendly win over the non-league club.

Forshaw did play once last season for the Under-23s in a Premier League 2 win over Aston Villa but this was the first time he’s played in front of fans and, more importantly to him, the first time in front of his son when he’s capable of remembering seeing his dad play.

Forshaw to play a role?

Forshaw still has a lot of work to do in order to get back into Marcelo Bielsa’s senior squad.

The former Middlesbrough midfielder didn’t play a single first-team match last season and hasn’t done in September 2019.

At the start of the promotion-winning season in the Championship, Bielsa did look as though he was going to utilise Forshaw quite regularly.

The 29-year-old started the first six matches in the centre of the midfield and played some of his best football in a Leeds United shirt until he was struck down by his hip injury.

It remains to be seen whether Forshaw will be able to rediscover that form because he has had so long out but you know that a manager like Bielsa, and his amazing coach staff, will give him the best chance possible.

Forshaw is in the final year of his contract at Elland Road and we doubt it will get extended unless he’s able to prove himself.

If not, we could see him getting loaned out to a Championship team, where he can get himself back up to speed and potentially get a new contract in West Yorkshire.

We’ll see how it goes but we wish Forshaw all the luck in the world. We really want him to have a good season after the hell he’s been through.

In other Leeds United news, this midfielder has been sent back to Elland Road after being rejected.
