Adam Forshaw absent from Leeds United pre-season training amid contract development – Phil Hay
Leeds United midfielder Adam Forshaw is yet to return for pre-season training while contract negotiations continue with the club, according to The Athletic’s Phil Hay
Hay states that Forshaw’s contract expired and Leeds rejected the chance to extend that contract for another year. However, the Whites have proposed a new contract on different terms for Forshaw, whose significant injury woes saw him go 23 months without a game [The Athletic].
The club have offered the 31-year-old the chance to start pre-season at Thorp Arch, but he is currently absent. Leeds are hopeful that he will sign a deal to help them in the Championship next season.

Experience needed, but a risk
Forshaw’s unfortunate injury issues have kept him on the fringes of the Leeds side. He made no Premier League appearances in their first season back in the top flight. He featured for Leeds 12 times in the league last season but was limited to substitute appearances, playing fewer than 500 minutes [Transfermarkt].
He’s not been a regular for Leeds since the 2018/19 season in the Championship, and he may well have his next regular season back in the second tier if he pens a new deal in Yorkshire.
Injuries can take their toll on a player, so it is understandable that Forshaw is weighing up his options before committing himself to another season of often gruelling EFL action.
Forshaw’s career was at risk due to his hip injuries, with the midfielder often asking himself: “Honestly, what’s going to happen to me now?” [The Athletic].
Perhaps he may consider early retirement, but Leeds themselves clearly see value in having Forshaw at the club. While his deal would likely be on reduced wages considering their relegation and his injury worries, the Englishman may relish the chance to have an impact at the club and help them back to the Premier League.

Considering Forhaw was injured during their promotion-winning campaign, he may have one final crack at putting himself into Leeds’ history.
