First-refusal clause emerges in Milos Kerkez contract as Leeds United chase £17.75million talent

AC Milan hold a first refusal on AZ Alkmaar’s Milos Kerkez as Leeds United target the young left-back prospect, according to Sky Sports.

The teenager is attracting wide attention in the Premier League and across Europe since the Hungarian international developed into a first-team player in the Eredivisie, following a £1.77million move from the San Siro 12-months ago.

The 19-year-old’s value has multiplied 10 times since, and he is now rated at £17.75million as the likes of Atletico Madrid and Dortmund have taken notice.

While the Italian champions have the right to step in on any potential move it appears it shouldn’t be an issue if Leeds United were to get to the front of the queue.

Sky Sports report: “Milan are understood to have a clause that gives them first refusal on a bid to re-sign him.

Sky Sports News understands, however, that the now £17.75m-rated talent is not keen to go back there.”

Golden opportunity

This looks like the narrow window that clubs at the Whites’ current level have to take advantage of, before a talented youngster quickly becomes the concern of European heavyweights.

There is a gap in the Leeds United squad for a full-time starter at left-back, with Junior Firpo looking unlikely to claim the spot long-term and Pascal Struijk still playing out of position.

Despite Max Wober arriving already in this window, further reinforcements at the back would certainly not go amiss.

Fans may hope that whatever funds are available aren’t all spent there at the expense of help in the goalscoring department, but left-back is a position that has been needing attention for the best part of a year.

It won’t be lost on the club’s fanbase that Milan appear not to be in position to spoil a transfer pursuit, despite the clause, because the player isn’t interested.

After the Charles De Ketelaere chase in the summer that is a welcome change of positions, but whether United are able to convince Kerkez that Elland Road is his next step before one of the European giants who are sniffing around remains to be seen.

If the club can get a move done while there is still time it looks like it could be one that pays off in the long term.

In other Leeds United news, a billionaire-backed side has eyes on a key Whites player who could now be difficult to keep at the club.
