‘Absolutely, why not?’ – Howey urges Leeds to re-sign former attacker

Former Newcastle defender Steve Howey believes that Leeds United should re-sign Eddie Nketiah from Arsenal with the youngster not starting in the Premier League at The Emirates.

Nketiah scored five goals in 19 competitive appearances for Leeds last season while on loan from the Gunners and Howey believes the 21-year-old should return to Elland road.

Speaking to FootballFanCast, Howey said that Leeds should take the young attacker on loan until the end of the season.

He said, “It’s clear he’s not really in the team (at Arsenal). (Bukayo) Saka seems to be the man who’s kind of getting everybody’s attention at the moment.

“Nketiah certainly, was one that was, but it’s an opportunity for him to go there.

“Again, for Nketiah, from now until the end of the season, and he’s been there before and knows what it’s about, absolutely. Why not?”

Leeds haven’t exactly struggled for goals this season but there would be no harm in having more back up for Patrick Bamford and Rodrigo.

Nketiah has 12 Premier League appearances this season but he has only started three of those games as he can’t displace Alexandre Lacazette in Mikel Arteta’s side.

There is no shame in that as Lacazette is a quality striker but if an offer came in and Nketiah wants more game time then he may be interested in returning to his old stomping ground.

In Europe, the 21-year-old has shone this season which may mean Arsenal will be reluctant to part with Nketiah.

He has three goals in six Europa League starts and he could be key for Arteta as the Gunners look to continue their European journey.

Many Whites fans would love to see Nketiah back but the club may not be very active this window and frankly, we need cover at the back and in midfield before we even think about bolstering our attacking ranks.

In other Leeds United news, one pundit has urged Leeds to aim for the FA Cup this season.
