‘Absolutely outstanding’ – Robinson lavishes praise on Leeds ace who has ‘done the job’ in 19/20
Paul Robinson has hailed Ben White for his “absolutely outstanding” contribution for Leeds United this season.
The Brighton loanee has been an ever-present for Marcelo Bielsa’s men this term, and has been a key fixture of the defence at Elland Road in 2019/20.
And with Robinson suggesting that the pressure was on Bielsa to get the Whites promoted this campaign after failing to do so last time around, the former goalkeeper has picked out the young defender for his positive impact at the club.
Speaking on The Football Show (Sky Sports News, July 17th, 10am), he said: “I think this was probably his [Bielsa’s] last shot.
“I think he realised how close he got last year and that he knew that he had the players and the squad, with a couple of additions.
“Ben White has been absolutely outstanding. Him and Jack Harrison, them two and the development of Kalvin Phillips’ game, the team that Bielsa’s built has done the job.”
It’s odd to think that when we first signed Ben White, none of us really knew whether he would have what it took to step up and replace Pontus Jansson in the heart of defence.
We should never have been worried.
The youngster has won a higher percentage of aerial duels, an equal percentage of defensive duels, and has lost the ball fewer times per 90 minutes than Jansson did last season, as per Wyscout.
In short, he has been superb, and it’s little wonder that Jermaine Beckford has urged Leeds to prioritise signing him on a permanent deal this summer.
In other Leeds United news, players were blown away by their team-mates display with Eddie Nketiah also reacting.
