'Absolute masterstroke' - Keith Andrews wowed by how Leeds transfer turned out
Keith Andrews has hailed Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa for selling Pontus Jansson and replacing him with Ben White in the summer.
Even though he has been one of the best centre-backs in the Championship in recent years, Leeds opted to cash in on Jansson last summer with Brentford swooping in to sign him.
White, 22, was brought in on loan from Brighton to take Jansson’s spot in Leeds’ back-four and since then, the young defender has been nothing short of brilliant.
Although Jansson’s Brentford are doing well, he has not been missed at all due to how well White has done and that kind of nous in the transfer market has left Andrews raving about Bielsa.
“He did very little in the transfer market but it has been extremely effective,” the ex-Wes Brom midfielder told Sky Sports.
“Ben White to replace Pontus Jansson was a big move, but it has turned out to be an absolute masterstroke. Helder Costa took a while to get going but he has been good, too.”
It is hard to disagree with Andrews here and even what he has said about Costa is true.
Costa is another one on loan at Elland Road but Leeds will sign him permanently from Wolves once the season is done and dusted.
There are some worries about whether he will be able to make the step up to the Premier League if Leeds win promotion but as soon by fellow winger Jack Harrison, a second season under Bielsa can see players improve leaps and bounds.
Hopefully that is the case for Costa and hopefully, Leeds can keep White past the end of his loan spell.
In other Leeds United news, Leeds have been ranked higher than five Premier League clubs in this list of global club rankings.
