Aaronson wants Leeds United move, Orta in Austria for talks

Leeds United are close to completing a deal to sign RB Salzburg’s American midfielder Brendan Aaronson with Victor Orta in Austria for negotiations, according to TEAMtalk.

The 20-year-old has been a target for Marcelo Bielsa for much of this January transfer window and the latest development seems to suggest that a deal is close, but there is a catch.

RB Salzburg are preparing for their Champions League round of 16 tie against Bayern Munich and they don’t want to lose Aaronson before then but Victor Orta is in the city to try and complete a deal.

“Despite director of football Victor Orta being in Austria for negotiations, it seems Salzburg have little desire to sell this month,” TEAMtalk reports.

“There is an acceptance on the Leeds side. As a result, Orta and Co are reportedly confident of tying up Aaronson’s signature – but only once the current season is over.”

“Aaronson has let it be known to Salzburg officials that he wants to make the move. But with a deal off the table this month, the USA international is prepared to wait to land his dream move.”

Still a positive development

It would have been nice to see the American international play for Leeds United this season but it seems that fans will have to wait to see that, but it is still good news.

The report suggesting that they would be happy to talk in the summer is a big benefit to the Whites who can now look elsewhere in the coming days if a midfielder is who they desperately need.

But Aaronson, who has made it known that he wants to make the move to Elland Road, has lots of time on his side and his desire to play in the Champions League is understandable.

Leeds are still way in the lead of the race to sign the 20-year-old and they can afford to wait six months to make the deal a reality.

They aren’t in any immediate danger of relegation so they aren’t in a position to panic at not getting the deal sorted this month.
