Aaron Lennon speaks out on Farke sack news at Leeds United – ‘Super harsh’

Daniel Farke will guide Leeds United to the Championship title if the Whites beat Plymouth on Saturday.

The German has already steered the Elland Road club back to the Premier League via their 6-0 win over Stoke City on Easter Monday.

Leeds then displayed how intent they are on beating Burnley to the Championship title when they saw off playoff hopefuls Bristol City 4-0 on 28 April.

But even though Farke has steered the Whites back to the Premier League and could seal the title on the final day of the campaign, the German is facing questions over his future.

Farke set to stay at Leeds and receive backing in the transfer window

The Whites have been linked with a move for ex-Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho amid the news that owners 49ers Enterprises could sack Farke.

Aaron Lennon has backed the West Yorkshire giants to retain the 48-year-old’s services and back him in the transfer market.

Speaking on talkSPORT [30 April, 1.45pm], he said: “I think it’s super harsh (the speculation surrounding Farke’s future).

“I know Daniel Farke’s been up with Norwich in previous seasons. But look, he’s come on, he’s a top manager and he deserves this opportunity.

“I think he’s been fantastic and with Leeds United coming back up. I’m sure he’ll get backing and be able to bring in some more players, because if they are going to stay up and challenge and do well in this league, they’re going to have to make some really, really good signings.”

Lennon is spot on about Farke and Leeds

Although Farke’s Leeds future has been brought into question, amid his poor Premier League record with Norwich, Lennon is right to point out that the German deserves another shot at the top flight.

He has successfully picked the Elland Road outfit up from last season’s playoff final defeat and steered them towards a remarkable campaign in which they are set to win 100 points.

While Farke has underwhelmed in the Premier League previously, the Whites appear set to give him strong backing in the summer transfer window, which would help the West Yorkshire club survive in the top tier.

There is no doubt that Leeds require more quality among their ranks to survive in the top flight, while Farke and the 49ers are in agreement that the Elland Road side should sign Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff.

The Whites have been top class in the Championship this term, scoring 93 goals in 45 outings so far, while a few fresh additions should help them adjust to the Premier League.
