Brenden Aaronson wants Leeds United move, wages and tactics in place – Phil Hay

The prospect of Brenden Aaronson arriving at Leeds United in the summer are strong as the player is “keen” on the move, reports The Athletic’s Phil Hay.

Red Bull Salzburg refused to sanction a January move for the American ahead of their Champions League tie with Bayern Munich, with bids of £15million and £20million rejected.

But the journalist suggests all of the winter barriers to the move should be out of the way come the end of the season, with wages not expected to be an issue either.

Writing in The Athletic he says: “There is confidence in Aaronson’s potential and ability but confidence in his character too. Leeds sought references about him, some from coaches who have worked with him in the past, and Aaronson – despite his refusal to comment on last month’s bids – is understood to be receptive to the idea of moving to England.

“So, he is keen on the move, Leeds expect to be able to meet his wage demands and both parties appreciate how Aaronson would slot in tactically.

“What he was not prepared to do was force his way out of Salzburg or hit them with a transfer request a few weeks before they take on Bayern Munich in their first-ever Champions League knockout tie.”

Positive news

It was a frustrating experience for the club and the supporters during January as they were repeatedly knocked back.

Knowing the building blocks appear to be in place for the failure to become a success in the summer will go along way to getting people to forget the past month.

For that to come to pass of course the Whites need to stay in the Premier League, which currently is expected but not certain.

With the former Philadelphia Union man the only serious contender to arrive last month, Marcelo Bielsa has committed to sticking out the injury crisis and relying on his squad to drag that team out of trouble.

The manager had the opportunity to sign Harry Winks from Tottenham and Donny van de Beek from Manchester United at the end of January and turned down both (Yorkshire Evening Post).

Fans will have to hope he can back up his decisions for United to survive, and the additional summer signing that may come with it.
