Harvey Elliott responds to Pascal Struijk message after Leeds United v Liverpool incident
Harvey Elliott has responded to Pascal Struijk’s apology after the teenager was injured in Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Leeds United on Sunday.
Elliott, 18, was stretchered off the Elland Road pitch during yesterday’s Premier League clash after a challenge from Struijk.
The Whites defender was subsequently dismissed by the referee for his role in the Liverpool attacker’s injury.
Struijk has since apologised on social media, saying that “in the game something happened that I would never wish on anyone”.
This quote was shared on the 433 Instagram page, and Elliott took to the comments to respond to Struijk’s apology on Monday afternoon.
He wrote: “Wasn’t his fault whatsoever! Neither was it a red card, just a freak accident, but these things happen in football. I’ll be back stronger 100%. Thanks for all the support.”
Great to hear
It sounds like Elliott is in positive spirits despite his devastating injury, and he has taken Struijk’s apology well.
Of course, there’s no real suggestion that the Whites defender set out to injure the Liverpool man at all, save for the tiny percentage of people who will always try to castigate someone for something.
It just appeared to be an unfortunate incident that saw horrible consequences, and those things can happen in football.
But Struijk has offered his regret nonetheless, showing huge class.
That has been returned by Elliott, who has refused to blame anyone and acknowledged that it was a “freak accident”.
Hopefully, Elliott will recover as soon as possible and get back to displaying his huge talent on the pitch.
For Struijk, it looks like he is set to serve a ban that will keep him out of action until October.
Let’s hope he is not too affected by this incident, either.
