49ers to miss out on millions at Leeds United as European news emerges

Robin Koch can reportedly leave Leeds United for free during the summer in a move which could cost the 49ers.

German newspaper BILD report on 12 June that Koch is free to walk away from Elland Road without a transfer fee after a clause in his contract emerged.

It’s believed clubs from German and England are interested. Furthermore, it’s understood the German has a clause in his current deal which prevents him from playing in the second tier.

Leeds signed Koch for £13million (Daily Mail) in 2020, and could well have cashed in significantly this summer. However, with the German now set to depart – they’ve missed out on a significant windfall.

They have Victor Orta to thank for this one. Why on earth did the former sporting director allow for such a clause to be put into his contract?

Koch has been a good player for Leeds, but there’s no jeopardy for him. He knows if the club is relegated, he won’t be joining them in the second tier. Where’s the intent for him to perform to his best?

Decisions like this have to be better thought through. Hopefully, with the new ownership now in place, smarter business calls can be made.

With Orta no longer at the club, the 49ers can make their own call when it comes to the new sporting director. It’s a key appointment to ensure instances like this don’t happen again.

With the transfer window set to open in just a matter of days, Koch could well be on the first to depart Elland Road.

In other Leeds United news, a BBC pundit has been left stunned as Phil Hay has dropped a fresh update on who the Whites are considering bringing in as manager this summer.
