49ers make bold change ahead of Elland Road redevelopment work start at Leeds United
Leeds United have already confirmed plans to transform Elland Road in the years to come.
Leeds have had their fair share of off-field dealings already this season, reaching an out-of-court agreement with Everton after a lengthy legal dispute.
The 49ers Enterprises and Paraag Marathe have come under scrutiny in recent times as fans aren’t happy with the lack of backing Daniel Farke received in the summer transfer window.
There have been exciting Leeds promises made around Elland Road’s renovation, but fans may be questioning the 49ers‘ words after recent developments have emerged.
There has been a change in architects at Leeds for Elland Road
Leeds have surprised people in the Premier League this season, and have started better than expected.
The atmosphere at Elland Road is already one of the best in the country, and a proposed 50,000-plus capacity would be quite a literal game-changing rebuild.
However, according to Adam Pope, the 49ers have changed the architects involved in the project, but the project management and design are to remain the same.
- Elland Road currently seats 37,645 fans
- The North and West stands will be rebuilt in phases
- Work is expected to begin at the end of the 2025-26 season.
The new architectural group remains unknown, as time will tell whether the change will turn out to be costly or worthwhile.
The change might be a worrying one, considering the recent behaviour of Marathe and Co.
The 49ers and Paraag Marathe may be opting for the cheaper option for Leeds
Leeds controversially signed Dominic Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer in the summer, who was one of many transfers that were questioned by fans.
Fellow promoted side Sunderland spent £150m-plus in their bid to stay in the top flight, whereas Marathe definitely kept some money to himself this summer.
Fans will already be questioning the motive behind the change, as it could very well be the case that the Leeds hierarchy has seen a chance to save some money with the reported change.
Marathe and the 49ers will just have to hope the change doesn’t backfire and that everything goes to plan smoothly, or fan outrage would rightly ensue.
