49ers Enterprises transfer plan emerges at Leeds United amid January FFP restrictions

Leeds United are expected to pursue loan deals between now and the end of the January transfer window at Elland Road, according to Leeds Live.

The news outlet reported on its website on Saturday (20 January) that the Whites have three slots available to be filled with temporary signings after Djed Spence’s time in Yorkshire was brought to a premature end earlier in January.

Financial fair play restrictions limit the amount Leeds can spend and it remains to be seen whether they will fill all of their loan slots after Daniel Farke admitted that he was willing to use the squad currently at his disposal between now and the end of the campaign.

Under the ownership of 49ers Enterprises in the summer, the Whites spent heavily rebuilding their squad following relegation, paying transfer fees for the likes of Joel Piroe, Ethan Ampadu, Ilia Gruev and Glen Kamara.

Wait and act

The loan market in January can often be very different to how it was in the summer. Leeds United have already benefited from one temporary arrival this season in Joe Rodon, but neither Spence nor Jaidon Anthony have had a big impact at Elland Road.

Signing a young player on a temporary basis is always a little bit of a gamble, but when it works, it can almost define a season. Leeds just have to take their time to find deals that are more likely to be a repeat of the Rodon magic, than the Spence flop.

As we enter the final few days of the January window, players who had previously been made unavailable by Premier League clubs could well become attainable once again as teams reshuffle their pack in preparation for the second half of the season.

While it seems unlikely that Leeds will be able to fill all three of their available loan slots between now and the end of the month, it wouldn’t be a shock to see one or two players arrive at Elland Road before the start of February.

But supporters shouldn’t be holding out hope for any big money arrivals late in the window.
