49ers Enterprises avoid major own goal after Archie Gray development at Leeds United
Beren Cross believes that Leeds United owners 49ers Enterprises avoided a “major own goal” by securing Joe Rodon in a permanent deal when they sold Archie Gray to Tottenham Hotspur.
Writing for Leeds Live on July 2, the journalist said that losing Gray has hit the Elland Road faithful hard, but bringing in Rodon helps soften the blow.
The club’s financial pressures necessitated the sale, but Rodon’s presence, after a strong season on loan under Daniel Farke, offers a silver lining.
While Gray’s departure is bittersweet, the Whites now have a more stable financial outlook for the future.
Cross wrote: “There is more to be written on this episode, but, for now, it will hurt. Leeds have two cushions for the blow, fortunately.
“A sale to Spurs without Joe Rodon being involved, even if it is a separate deal, would have been a major own goal for 49ers Enterprises.
“The other cushion is the understanding United’s profitability and sustainability position is now in a very comfortable place. All future sales will now be negotiated entirely on United’s terms and at the price they want.”
Joe Rodon signing is great news for Leeds United
Rodon’s permanent return to Leeds United on a four-year deal is fantastic news for the club.
After impressing everyone during his loan spell last season, Rodon’s arrival promises much-needed stability and strength to the defence.
His versatility, being comfortable as both a centre-back and right-back, will also be crucial. Rodon’s ability to play the ball out from the back and his aerial strength make him a reliable defensive anchor.
With nearly 50 caps for Wales, Rodon brings a wealth of international experience and leadership.
His time in the Premier League and Ligue 1 shows he can perform at the highest levels.

Rodon’s signing is a clear signal that Leeds are serious about solidifying their defence and pushing for promotion.
Fans can expect Rodon’s commanding presence and leadership to play a key role as the Whites fight for promotion next season.
