49ers chiefs descend on London as Leeds United managerial decision edges closer

Paraag Marathe and other heavy-hitting members of the 49ers will jet into London this week to conclude the search for the new Leeds United manager, according to Leeds Live.

It’s believed that “final talks” will take place during the week, with the club’s “key” decision-makers descending upon London (Leeds Live, 19 June).

It’s understood the final list of candidates, which includes Daniel Farke, will meet with Elland Road’s main men in the coming days for face-to-face talks.

Nick Hammond is set to be consulted, but the final decision is believed to fall with Marathe and Kinnear.

About time

Obviously, the ownership situation didn’t help, but it’s refreshing to see the managerial hunt near a conclusion. Whether you like it or not, the lack of a permanent boss has seriously hindered the Whites’ preparations for the new season.

With the players set to return in just a matter of weeks, the board would have liked to have been slightly further down the line in terms of their transfer work.

We’ve yet to see any concrete links emerge in recent weeks. With the Championship shaping up to be as tough as it has ever been, work on new recruits will have to begin in earnest when a decision is made on a new manager.

Farke would seem like the most sensible option. The former Norwich boss has earned a couple of promotions from the second tier whilst playing some fairly attractive and energetic football. Leeds fans want to be picking up results whilst being entertained – Farke could bring that.

In other Leeds United news, a far more popular first-team ace could be set to follow Firpo out of the club amid new talks with an English club.
