49ers active in Leeds United manager news with Marcelo Bielsa call

Leeds United minority shareholders, 49ers Enterprises, reached out to Marcelo Bielsa on the possibility of a return to the club, as reported by Phil Hay for The Athletic.

It has been revealed that contact was made with a Zoom call, a few weeks ago, as the prospective full owners made their own enquiries on the next manager appointment at Elland Road.

The update was provided in an overall assessment of the situation at the club at present, amid ongoing uncertainty on the intentions of chairman and majority owner, Andrea Radrizzani.

Hay was commenting on the recent activity of chief executive officer Angus Kinnear, a trusted associate of Radrizzani, and his dialogue with prospective appointments when he divulged that the US entity had been doing work of its own.

“49ers Enterprises has itself been active in browsing the market, he said.

“It discussed the possibility of going back to former head coach Marcelo Bielsa, sacked by Leeds in February last year, a few weeks ago and held at least one Zoom call with him, shortly before the Argentinian decided to take the job of managing Uruguay’s national team.”

If only

‘El Loco’ is still revered at Elland Road and as the current malaise continues, it is easy to see why.

Bielsa had Leeds playing with verve and flair, as the promotion back to the Premier League breathed new life into the club and from there, the supporters dared to dream.

It is fair to say that the regression since the Argentine coach departed has been stark.

The current guise of the club would not be an attractive proposition for him, but as we know by now, he has taken up a position with Uruguay.

If only it was a possibility.

As it is, the deadlock goes on at Elland Road, much to the frustration and anger of the supporters as the picture is no clearer.

As detailed by Hay, there is so much to do for the return to the Championship but little can be achieved until there is certainty and stability on the ownership front.

In other Leeds United news, the sale of the club could be a year away according to a prominent finance expert.
